I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

The Bird Dog did less than desirable. I think nose weight and a stronger motor are in order.

Looks great Steve, I love the nose art on the Tyro, thats pretty much my motto! How did the Bird Dog do?

She is safe...looks like she is already carrying the future.

One of the locals showed up to watch, I bet John O's trigger finger is itching.

This morning was all about touch and goes with the Tyro, but I took a break to shoot a photo of it in flight. If I was thinking I would have had my gf shoot pictures Saturday morning.

I finally got around to repainting the Tyro. The Bird Dog came along as there was little to no wind earlier this morning.

I got an email from Patches saying that he would slice and dice the Tyro if I named such a heap after him. The new spruce motor stick held up very well today. I supposed it helped that for the entire first battery pack (>20 minutes) I managed to touch and go without a single spill into the grass. On subsequent battery packs the cross wind was getting fairly strong and had some nasty gusts, so later I considered it good enough if I managed to tap the runway with the main gear.

I flew on a C-123 in Viet Nam once that was "patched" with numerous red circles on the inside to cover the bullet holes.

Just name it "Patches". Keep on flying!

Glad to hear you did some good touch and go's. :)
SteveM, Image # 850129 May 08 16:37

Huh, that didn't take long. Notice I have resorted to mending small rips with scotch tape. I got this glued back together managed several touch and go's without breaking it again. On the way home I bought a spruce stick from the LHS.

SW - It's a Pac Man maze for electrons.

WOW! Steve, could you translate that into English.

Whoa!!

Most of what you see are horribly inefficient memory blocks that are just there to support testing the central processor (I guess you could call it that) that is the large block near the top center. It will be the brains to control a wireless and batteryless sensor node that harvests its energy from RF, takes temperature measurements, and sends its temperature measurements to other sensor nodes till the data reaches a central hub. PhD students have already made the other parts of the sensor node but someone had to give it a brain so I decided I'd rather to that than a PLL or Opamp. I won't know if it works properly till I get it back in about 3-4 months. Now I get to make a pcb and write a bunch of test code, probably for an Atmel µC.

What are you designing there, Steve?

Just in case you guys didn't know, Uncle Willie's gives away a free set of plans on Memorial Day. http://www.myunclewillies.com/services.html

I'm told that after 100,000 landings I should be pretty good at them. But like you said James, I'm just trying to have a trip to the field that does not result in some sort of repair. On our field I see a lot of sport and 3D planes and precious few warbirds, and as near as I can tell all are ARF/RTF and foam. I just don't relate to the people that gush over how wonderful someone's foam plane is (that may not even be painted). When I get my flying skills up expect to see me fly warbirds and even attempt some Guillow's conversions like James did on the DR-1, but maybe on something else...like a P-39. Poppy, I don't know except that to buy the electronics and battery for a 40 or 60 sized plane can really set you back, even more so than a 4 stroke engine. But in the long run the electric should be cheaper along with many other advantages like no oil messes and hardly any noise to upset the neighbors.

That little electric motor takes poundings a lot better than a glo engine. If you are lucky only a needle valve breaks, but always dirt requiring a take apart and cleaning. I don't know why anyone would fly anything but electrics nowadays.
